There are a lot of applications, as well as web services that allow you to download and/ or listen to music. Here at AddictiveTips, we have covered a number of apps and web services (check out our compilation of top 50 web services for listening to music). Listening to music while working, or when you are taking a break from work, helps releasing the stress from your nerves. There are some people, who not only listen to music, but also like to play an instrument. The problem with playing an instrument, however, is that first you need to learn how to play it. Guitar and Bass is an application for Windows that allows you to learn how to play fret-based (stringed) instruments. It provides you with various exercises in order to practice notes, chords and scales. Moreover, it comes packed with a lot of tools such as a tuner, metronome, key finder, chord finder etc., which allow you to better train yourself. A built-in Tab (tablature) Editor can be used to edit existing tabs, as well as create new ones.
During setup, you are asked to install the SweetIM toolbar, as well as RegClean. Make sure you disable the installation options of both the applications in order to avoid installing unwanted software in your computer.
When the application is launched for the first time, you get a Welcome dialog box with 4 tabs. Each tab lets you customize the program according to your needs. For instance, the first tab lets you select your instrument, tuning and set the instrument as left handed.
The main interface has Reference, Exercises, Tools and Tablatures menus at the left, while any tool that you select is displayed in the main window of the interface.
There are File, Reference, Exercises, Tools, Tablatures and Options menus at the top. Each menu contains several options related to music learning. Some of them (Reference, Exercises, and Tools) are also available from the left side. The Reference menu provides access to Common Chords, Intervals, Chord Builder, Scales and Keys dialog boxes, While the Exercises tab lets you practice playing the instrument using several Fretboard, Keys, Scales and Ear Training exercises.
The Tools menu features a Tuner, Metronome, Jam Band, Key Finder and Chord Finder.
Click Options and select Setup to change application settings related to Instruments, Tuning, Sounds, Tablature, Scales, Chords, Audio and Exercises.
Guitar and Bass works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
