The great thing about social media services like Facebook, Twitter
and Instagram is that you can always go back in time and see what you
posted about something on a particular day. It may not sound useful or
productive at all, but it feels pretty cool to have instant access to
past memories at any time. Of course, you can’t possibly remember
everything. Timehop aims to ensure you’d never need to. A year ago, the company released an iOS app
that lets people ‘go back in the past’ to view their posts on popular
social networks for the current day. The far-famed Timehop app has now
finally landed on the Google Play Store for Android devices.
Timehop basically pulls up status updates from Facebook, tweets from Twitter, photos from Instagram, check-ins from Foursquare, and now, photos from your local gallery as well, that were posted/taken a year, or two, or three ago on the current day.
The interface of the Android version is more or less identical to its iOS counterpart’s. When you launch the app for the first time, you’ll need to log in to your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or Foursquare accounts. Once that is done, the app will take some time to populate your feed with old highlights from all connected accounts, plus photos from your local gallery. Each day, your feed is refreshed with a new ‘timehop’, which displays photos that were taken and social media updates that were posted on the same day up to three years ago (depending on how long ago you started using the social network).
The app also lets you share any of these over Facebook and Twitter, so your pals may also be able to relive these memories with you.
If you find the need to remove connected services from the app later, you can do so from its Settings screen.
Overall, a simple but great app that you can check once every day to lighten your mood and share cherished memories with old friends.
You can download it for free from the Play Store link provided below.
