I still remember the day I became the owner of my first Android smartphone, and the experience was nothing short of exhilarating. I could have started off with playing games on it, streaming YouTube videos, or listening to Spotify, but the very first thing I did was checking my email – a task I had been performing as one of the first things every morning even before my smartphone life began. Mobile and emails have become an indispensable part of our lives. Therefore, having a good email app on your smartphone or tablet is always a good idea. For most people, the default Gmail app works well but for those who use other email services or just want a different option, try locking your sights at CloudMagic. Why use a third-party email client when Android comes with one out of the box, you might ask? Well, it’s because CloudMagic is so much better than the stock Email app on so many levels. So, let’s take a look at them right after the jump...
First off, is the app’s compatibility with many email services that makes it shine. All the marquee names like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook, iCloud etc., are in there. In addition, it works flawlessly with additional services like Google Apps, Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 accounts, as well as any IMAP-based email accounts.
Another great thing about CloudMagic – and that’s what purportedly makes it better than other email clients – is its lightening fast search capability. The app’s ‘magical search’ feature allows you to quickly find the right mails at the right time. It automatically indexes all emails to provide blistering fast search results.
The app also has a really good interface. On its home screen, you will find Window 8-inspired tiles that let you add your desired email service. The interface is quite simple, but looks beautiful in its own way. When you sign in to your desired account(s), CloudMagic doesn’t take much time setting everything up, and instantly takes you to your inbox. To use the search function, just tap ‘Search’ at the top, followed by entering your query. No need to end your query with the Return key, as the results are shown immediately as you type. CloudMagic also highlights the search phrase within the results for your convenience.
Emails are also rendered fairly well and I didn’t come across any issues with rendering text or images in messages. CloudMagic lets you manage your emails from different accounts in one place using its ‘Unified Inbox’. This rids you of the hassle of having to track different email accounts under multiple inboxes.
Push notifications are also fully supported. In addition, you can mark your desired items by tapping the ‘Star’ icon besides them, which in turn lets you set reminders for performing follow-ups to them in a timely fashion.
The app is available for free at Google Play, though also has a paid version that comes with extra perks like a Passcode security lock and offline access.
