The official Android client of Facebook may have its fair share of critics, but one simply cannot deny the fact that the app has been constantly improving, courtesy quite a few useful feature additions and performance enhancements that it gets with each subsequent update. Already a viable source for users to access their social world on-the-go, the official Facebook Android app now caters to your photo backup needs, too, as it has just been updated with the much-anticipated Google+ and Dropbox-like instant upload feature. That’s right, the mobile app now supports the Photo Syncing feature which, if enabled, automatically and instantly uploads all photos lying in your Android’s default camera (DCIM) directory to a private album on your Facebook Photos. Uploaded images can be found under the Synced from Phone tab on your Facebook, and can be shared with masses via a new post, moved to an existing/fresh album, downloaded to the computer or deleted altogether. Maximum storage capacity for photos backed up using the Photo Syncing feature is 2GB per account. Further details and the method to activate the feature will be discussed past the break...
It must be mentioned here that, in PhotoUp and Photo Saver, Facebook-loving Android users already have a couple of pretty impressive automatic photo backup solutions, but if you wish to stick to the first-party offering to get your hands on said feature, your wish is now granted. As of now, the Photo Syncing feature may not be available to everyone, but once it finally heads your way, all you need to do is follow the steps provided below to activate it on your device:
1. First things first, and you must have the latest version of Facebook for Android installed on your mobile (link provided at the end).
2. Once the app is installed, and you’ve logged in with your Facebook account, hit the main menu button in the top-left.
3. Navigate to Photos, tap the Sync tab at the bottom, and finally, hit the Sync Photos to enable automatic uploading. Upload progress can be monitored in real-time via notification bar alerts.
4. On your desktop browser, navigate to your Facebook Timeline, and click Photos, or hit the new photo upload notification to head over to the album dedicated to all automatically uploaded (private) photos.
5. You should now be able to see your photos on grid, with batch select option enabled by default.
Clicking an image thumbnail lets you view its enlarged version, complete with the option to download and delete it, or view its detailed info. Clicking the check button in the top-right of the thumbnail, you can select as many photos as you like and then share them via post, or maneuver them to a desired album.
To disable the Photo Syncing feature, just hit Menu > Account > App Settings > Sync Photos > Don’t sync my photos. From within the same menu, you can also enable the option to activate said feature over Wi-Fi only, or over both modes of internet connection (mobile & Wi-Fi).
