Smartphone sale is booming in India and an increasing number of people are getting hooked to them, demanding seamless connectivity anytime, anywhere. Looking at the recent trends in Q2 2013, India stood out as the world’s third largest smartphone market with total smartphone shipments at 9 million. Your Aadhaar card hasn’t reached you yet? Download e-AadhaarAround four years ago, the Indian government had announced the implementation of a unique identification number or Aadhaar card (something like the social security number in the US) for every citizen. Soon, registering and obtaining the Aadhaar card was on the agenda of almost every well-informed citizen. In fact, the government’s decision to make it a mandatory document in government schemes, banks, schools and so on had fuelled the urgency to obtain it quickly. The card still isn't mandatory, though, at least for now. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the agency responsible for implementing the Aadhaar card, has several enrollment centres across the country, and the procedure is hassled with long queues to acquire the form. Along with the form, the resident will be assigned a specific day for enrolling. This day can be within the next week or even months away. You then have to go and submit the Aadhaar application form along with other required security checks...

India to Witness Increased Average Internet Speed in Next 12 Months: Report

According to a recent report by a cloud computing firm Akamai Technologies, the average internet speed in India is likely to increase by over 40% to 1.8 Mbps in the next 12 months on the back of investments in high-speed fibre network and affordable data plans. The global average connection speed in the first quarter of 2013 was 3.1 Mbps while India witnessed an average connection speed of 1.3 Mbps during the same period...

4G Round-up: Reliance Jio, Airtel, ZTE & More


reliance industriesVoice over 4G or LTE becomes more and more important to Reliance Jio Infocomm, as they asked for extension of another 6 months to keep testing VoLTE over its networks.
The telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries asked for allocation of 10,000 mobile numbers to test voice calls on its LTE-TD/4G network in October last year. The numbers are allocated in April this year and the permit was to expire on July 16. Reliance Jio has been given 4,000 numbers each for Mumbai and Delhi and 2,000 numbers for testing mobile services in Jamnagar...

After BJP MP Tarun Vijay raised an alarm about Google's Mapathon event violating India's cartographical laws, Delhi Police is now investigating to figure out whether the search giant did indeed violate Indian law...

The complaint, which led to the investigation, was filed by the Survey of India, the authority which deals with all map-related complaints, which said the contest was illegal and could even threaten national security.

Suddenly, the buzzword in the tech industry seems to be “smartwatches”, and we think the only reason for this is the series of speculations and rumours surfacing about the iWatch by Apple. This reminds us of the pre-iPad launch period, when rumours about the Apple tablet were rife and all of a sudden, several renowned manufacturers also started prepping their own version of tablets.
