Around four years ago, the Indian government had announced the implementation of a unique identification number or Aadhaar card (something like the social security number in the US) for every citizen. Soon, registering and obtaining the Aadhaar card was on the agenda of almost every well-informed citizen. In fact, the government’s decision to make it a mandatory document in government schemes, banks, schools and so on had fuelled the urgency to obtain it quickly. The card still isn't mandatory, though, at least for now. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the agency responsible for implementing the Aadhaar card, has several enrollment centres across the country, and the procedure is hassled with long queues to acquire the form. Along with the form, the resident will be assigned a specific day for enrolling. This day can be within the next week or even months away. You then have to go and submit the Aadhaar application form along with other required security checks...
